PreschoolRocks.com has been a trusted resource for parents and caregivers since 2006. Founded by Stacey Lloyd, our mission is simple: give every family free access to high-quality early childhood ideas without needing a teaching degree or a big budget.
Every activity is designed for ages 2–6, uses materials you already have at home, and takes 20 minutes or less. We cover crafts, science, fitness, nutrition, music, books, outdoor adventures, and much more.
A fairy garden is a miniature world that children build and tend — one where every detail is considered at a tiny scale and where imagination is the primary design tool. Building one requires all the fine motor care of regular gardening (gentle planting, careful watering) plus the creative decision-making of imaginary world construction. The result is a living, growing miniature landscape that can be visited, tended, and added to over many seasons.
Water consistently (check soil moisture every few days), trim plants that become too large (small scissors work well for tiny thyme), remove dead plant material promptly, and replace any plants that don't thrive with different species. Succulents and alpines are the most forgiving. Remove and refresh the container soil annually in spring. The garden will change with the seasons — rather than trying to keep it static, let children document and celebrate the seasonal changes as part of the ongoing fairy garden story.
