PreschoolRocks.com has been a trusted resource for parents and caregivers since 2006. Founded by Stacey Lloyd, our mission is simple: give every family free access to high-quality early childhood ideas without needing a teaching degree or a big budget.
Every activity is designed for ages 2–6, uses materials you already have at home, and takes 20 minutes or less. We cover crafts, science, fitness, nutrition, music, books, outdoor adventures, and much more.
A toy repair shop is an unusual and wonderful dramatic play scenario because it introduces children to a counter-cultural concept: when something breaks, you fix it rather than throw it away. The repair shop has a natural workflow — a customer brings a toy with a problem, the mechanic examines it, diagnoses the issue, applies the "fix," and returns it. This structure provides strong narrative scaffolding and genuine problem-solving practice.
With supervision, preschoolers can genuinely participate in: gluing broken toy parts with non-toxic craft glue, sewing on a button with a blunt needle and thick thread, tightening a loose wheel on a toy car, replacing batteries with guidance, and painting worn surfaces. These real repairs — not just pretend ones — build genuine competence and a meaningful sense of contribution. Celebrate each successful fix with a "certificate of repair."
