Every activity is designed for ages 2–6, uses materials you already have at home, and takes 20 minutes or less. We cover crafts, science, fitness, nutrition, music, books, outdoor adventures, and much more.
Floating alphabet letters transform a water table into a literacy center. Foam or plastic letter sets float perfectly and can be sorted, matched, fished out with nets, and arranged to spell names and words — with the added sensory pleasure of getting hands wet in the process. The multi-sensory engagement (seeing the letter, feeling it, saying its sound) creates stronger memory encoding than flashcard practice alone.
Foam bath letters (sold for bathtub use) are ideal — they float well, are grippy when wet, and survive extended water exposure without damage. Plastic magnetic letters can also be used in water briefly, though they should be dried thoroughly to prevent rust in the magnetic backing. Avoid cardstock or paper letters which disintegrate quickly when wet. Bath foam letters are inexpensive, widely available, and provide both uppercase and lowercase sets for comprehensive literacy work.
