Preschool yoga is not only appropriate but genuinely beneficial — it develops balance, strength, flexibility, and body awareness. More importantly, it teaches preschoolers the foundational self-regulation skills of breath awareness and still-body practice. Children's yoga programs (Cosmic Kids Yoga on YouTube is a popular free resource) frame poses as animals and characters, making the practice engaging. 10–15 minutes of child-appropriate yoga is appropriate daily from age 3.

Elusive Moose
Written by Joan Gannij
Illustrated by Clare Beaton
"I've seen Arctic foxes and hares come and go. But moose are elusive. Moose roam where they please. I wish I could see one just once. May I, please?"
Elusive Moose is a "hide-and-seek book" that tells the story of the silent and shy moose that live among other animals of the north. With beautiful illustrations and descriptions of various types of northern creatures, the story is told by a narrator who sees many animals, yet never finds the elusive moose. Children will delight in finding the moose hidden on each page, as the story progresses through the seasons. The informative pages at the end of the book give a description of each animal in the story, with details about size, habitat, eating habits, and more. The "Animal Tracks" section shows the animals that appear in the winter section of the book and allow a fun lesson in identifying animal prints. This book is recommended for ages 4 - 8.
Elusive Moose is beautifully illustrated and a joy to share with your preschooler. My four-year-old daughter enjoyed seeing the many animals throughout the book and identifying the seasons. Of course, with the hide-and-seek element of the book, she couldn't wait to turn the page and find the moose hidden among the other wildlife and plants. The fabric appliqu illustrations are so unique and practically jump from the pages. Look for felt, buttons, sequins, beads, fabric pieces, and stitching that bring the story to life through a variety of layers and textures. The last page has the moose in full view, looking right at your preschooler with sweet button eyes.
In the spirit of Elusive Moose 's "hide-and-seek" format, create a fun activity to do after reading the book. With a few simple materials, you and your preschooler can become moose and have your own fun game of hide-and-seek.
Materials:
Brown construction paper
Glue
Tape or stapler
Pencil
Glitter, sequins, fabric scraps, buttons, and other embellishments
Step 1: Trace your preschool child's hands onto brown construction paper and cut out the shapes. These will become the moose's antlers.
Step 2: Cut two strips of construction paper and tape or staple them together to the circumference of your child's head (to create a headband). Staple the hand-shaped antlers to the headband.
Step 3: Create your own elusive moose by gluing buttons, fabric scraps, sequins, and other decorations onto the headband. You can use the illustrations in the book for inspiration.
Step 4: Take turns playing a game of moose hide-and-seek, wearing the headband and pretending to be a quiet moose.
