PreschoolRocks.com has been a trusted resource for parents and caregivers since 2006. Founded by Stacey Lloyd, our mission is simple: give every family free access to high-quality early childhood ideas without needing a teaching degree or a big budget.
Every activity is designed for ages 2–6, uses materials you already have at home, and takes 20 minutes or less. We cover crafts, science, fitness, nutrition, music, books, outdoor adventures, and much more.
Unstructured physical play — running, climbing, jumping, rolling, chasing — is more developmentally beneficial for preschoolers than structured exercise programs. Free play allows children to follow their physical inclinations, take self-regulated risks, and develop the full range of movement patterns that structured programs don't always include. Adult-led physical games (tag, relay races, dance) provide variety and social structure. The ideal physical day includes both: a foundation of free physical play with periodic adult-facilitated games.

Establishing a healthy routine with your preschooler can be an easy and fun activity for you and your child. With concerns over inactive kids these days, the best defense is to introduce fitness and healthy eating to your young preschooler, with the intention of building a fit lifestyle throughout their childhood and into adulthood. The good news? Preschoolers enjoy fun activities and they love to see mom, dad, a grandparent, or teacher involved as well. Make it easy, make it fun, and you're sure to see plenty of healthy results.
To begin, don't underestimate your preschooler's abilities. If they can't do a certain exercise now, practice until they better develop coordination and balance. The following are easy preschool exercise ideas that you can do at any time during the day. Try and incorporate several of these into your preschooler's day.
Toe Touches - This is a basic preschool exercise that can be a lot of fun as well as increase flexibility.
Jumping Jacks - Have your preschooler try this one out by explaining to open up arms and legs like an X, then put legs together and arms at their sides. Jumping jacks are a challenging coordination movement for preschoolers, but there are still benefits in jumping and following directions until they perfect the move.
Sit and Stretch - While sitting, try variations on stretches. Put legs together and your preschooler can creep his fingers down to his toes. Ask your preschooler to give each knee a kiss! Then open up the legs wide and stretch over one leg, then the other.
Butterfly Knees - While sitting, show your preschooler how to touch the bottoms of their feet together, with knees opened to the sides. This easy preschool exercise allows them to flap their legs like the motion of a butterfly.
Neck Rolls - Either while sitting or standing, instruct your preschooler about how to gently roll her head by moving to the side, looking down, and moving to the other side.
Shoulder Shrugs - This easy preschool exercise can seem silly, but it's a nice way to stretch out the shoulders. First relax the shoulders, then shrug them up to your ears, before returning to the starting position.
Balance Activity - Have your preschooler balance on one leg and count how long he can stay balanced. Your preschooler will likely be challenged by this at first, but eventually he will become more stable.

Ask your preschooler for ideas - they will likely come up with a lot of fun ones!
