Crumpling and gluing tissue paper into fireworks bursts on black paper creates a stunning art piece that looks like a photograph of a real fireworks display. The high contrast of colorful tissue on black background is visually dramatic and deeply satisfying.
Step 1: Plan the fireworks. Discuss where each burst will be on the black paper.
Step 2: Tear and crumple. Tear tissue paper into small pieces and crumple loosely.
Step 3: Arrange in bursts. Glue crumpled tissue in starburst patterns on the black paper — wide at the center, radiating outward.
Step 4: Add sparkle. Apply small dots of gold or silver paint for additional stars.
Step 5: Dry and display. Hang on a window so light glows through the tissue.
Radial composition — Arranging elements that radiate from a center builds understanding of symmetry and space.
Color and contrast — The vivid tissue on black paper is a lesson in visual contrast.
Encourage children to make bursts of different sizes — not all the same. Variety in scale makes the composition look more like a real fireworks show.
