Star Wand Craft

Star Wand Craft

A glittery patriotic star wand is the perfect accessory for a Fourth of July parade or backyard celebration. Children wave them while marching, twirl them during sparkler time (safely!), and use them as magic wands for imaginary play long after the holiday.

What You'll Need

  • Red and blue cardstock — for star shapes
  • Gold and silver glitter glue — for sparkle
  • Wooden dowel or sturdy straw — for the handle
  • Ribbon strips — red, white, and blue, about 12 inches each
  • Tape and glue — for assembly

How to Do It

Step 1: Cut two star shapes. Cut identical large star shapes from cardstock.

Step 2: Decorate both sides. Children cover both stars with glitter glue in patriotic colors. Let dry completely.

Step 3: Sandwich the stick. Place the dowel between the two stars and glue them together with the dowel extending as the handle.

Step 4: Add ribbons. Tape several ribbon strips to the base of the star so they stream when waved.

Step 5: Wave it proudly!

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Symmetry — Cutting two matching stars introduces bilateral symmetry.

Patriotic symbols — Stars and red-white-blue connect children to national symbols.

Tips & Variations

  • Use star stickers to decorate for a no-mess option.
  • Make wands in different sizes for a whole family set.

My Two Cents

Glitter glue takes longer to dry than regular paint — make these the day before the celebration so they're fully set and truly sparkly when waved.
