Pressed Flower Card

Pressed Flower Card

A Mother's Day card made with real pressed flowers is breathtakingly beautiful and completely personal. Flowers pressed between book pages for a week turn translucent and delicate — glued onto a card, they create something that looks like it came from a botanical art studio.

What You'll Need

  • Fresh flowers and leaves — collected 1 week before the card is made
  • Heavy books — for pressing; parchment paper between pages
  • Blank cardstock cards — folded in half
  • Mod Podge or clear glue — to adhere flowers
  • Paintbrush — to apply Mod Podge
  • Marker — for writing the message

How to Do It

Step 1: Press the flowers (one week before). Place flowers between sheets of parchment paper in a heavy book. Stack more books on top. Leave for 5–7 days.

Step 2: Arrange on the card. Gently remove pressed flowers and arrange them on the front of the card in a pleasing composition.

Step 3: Adhere. Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge on the card front, arrange flowers, then brush another thin layer over the top to seal.

Step 4: Let dry. Allow to dry fully — at least 2 hours.

Step 5: Write the message. Open the card and write a loving note inside.

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Botanical observation — Examining and pressing real flowers builds nature knowledge.

Delicate handling — Working with fragile pressed flowers builds patience and fine motor care.

Tips & Variations

  • Press a variety of flowers so children can choose their favorites for the card.
  • Add a few leaves for greenery contrast.
  • Press the flowers in late April so they're ready for Mother's Day in May.

My Two Cents

Pansies, violas, daisies, and small rose petals press beautifully. Thick flowers like tulips don't press well. Always press more than you think you need — some will crumble when handled, and having extras prevents disappointment.
