Popsicle Stick Picture Holder

Popsicle Stick Picture Holder

A desk picture holder made from popsicle sticks holds a photo of the child at Dad's work desk all year long. Simple to make, sturdy when dried, and infinitely charming when it holds a smiling photo.

What You'll Need

  • Popsicle sticks (craft sticks) — about 20 per holder
  • Wood glue or hot glue — for a strong bond
  • Acrylic paint — in dad's favorite colors
  • A binder clip or clothespin — to hold the photo
  • A printed photo — 2×2 or 3×3 inches
  • Optional: glitter, stickers, foam letters — for decorating

How to Do It

Step 1: Build the base. Glue 7 popsicle sticks side by side (like a raft). Glue two sticks across the back, perpendicular, top and bottom.

Step 2: Make the stand. Glue two sticks in a V-shape on the back for a kickstand.

Step 3: Paint. Paint the whole base in dad's favorite color. Let dry.

Step 4: Decorate. Add the child's name, stickers, or paint dots.

Step 5: Attach the photo holder. Glue a clothespin or binder clip to the back of the base so a photo can be clipped in.

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Structural thinking — Building something that stands upright requires understanding balance and support.

Patience — Waiting for glue to dry between steps teaches delayed gratification.

Tips & Variations

  • Spell "DAD" with foam letter stickers across the base.
  • Add multiple clips for a mini gallery of photos.

My Two Cents

Hot glue is much faster than wood glue and holds better — just manage that step carefully with little ones nearby. Give children the painting and decorating steps while you handle the gluing.
