Handprint Christmas Wreath

Handprint Christmas Wreath

Dozens of green handprints arranged in a circle on paper form a stunning Christmas wreath — one of the most beloved holiday keepsake crafts. Add red fingerprint "berries" and a bow, and the wreath is complete.

What You'll Need

  • Large paper or cardstock — white or cream background
  • Green paint — for the handprints
  • Red paint — for berry fingerprints
  • Red ribbon — for the bow at the bottom
  • Pencil — to lightly mark the circle placement

How to Do It

Step 1: Mark the circle. Lightly trace a circle in pencil on the paper as a guide for handprint placement.

Step 2: Paint the hands. Apply green paint evenly to the child's palm and fingers.

Step 3: Press around the circle. Make handprints all around the circle, overlapping and facing inward — about 12–16 prints for a full wreath.

Step 4: Add berries. Once the green is dry, use red-tipped fingerprints to add clusters of berries throughout the wreath.

Step 5: Add the bow. Tie a real red ribbon in a bow and glue to the bottom of the wreath.

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Circular composition — Arranging elements in a ring around a center develops spatial planning.

Keepsake awareness — Knowing this will be kept and treasured builds a sense of legacy.

Tips & Variations

  • Add the year and the child's age to make a dated annual keepsake.
  • Use multiple shades of green for a more realistic wreath.
  • Frame in a round frame for a finished look.

My Two Cents

The secret is complete circle coverage — gaps in the wreath are noticeable. Pre-marking the circle generously and encouraging children to really fill it in produces the most beautiful results. A second coat of prints on top of the first, once dry, adds lovely depth.
