Flower Bookmark

Flower Bookmark

A handmade flower bookmark is a small but perfectly lovely Mother's Day gift — especially for a mom who loves to read. Made from cardstock, ribbon, and pressed or paper flowers, it's simple enough for very young children and elegant enough to use in a grown-up book.

What You'll Need

  • Cardstock strip — about 2 inches × 7 inches
  • Ribbon — a 6-inch piece attached at the top
  • Foam or paper flowers — or pressed real flowers
  • Laminator (optional) — for durability
  • Markers — for decorating and writing a message

How to Do It

Step 1: Decorate the strip. Children draw patterns, write a message ("I love you!"), or add stickers.

Step 2: Attach the flower. Glue a foam or paper flower (or a pressed real flower) to the top of the strip.

Step 3: Attach the ribbon. Punch a hole at the top and thread ribbon through, tying in a knot.

Step 4: Laminate (optional). Run through a laminator for a lasting bookmark.

Step 5: Present. Slip inside the recipient's current book.

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Small-scale design — Working within the bookmark's narrow dimensions is a focused design challenge.

Reading culture — Making a bookmark introduces and honors the habit of reading.

Tips & Variations

  • Press real flowers from the garden and laminate them in the bookmark.
  • Make a set of three with different flowers for a bouquet bookmark set.

My Two Cents

Lamination makes these infinitely more durable and gives them a professional finished look. A cheap home laminator is one of the best investments for a classroom.
