A paper firecracker made from a cardboard tube decorated in red, white, and blue with tissue paper "sparks" exploding from the top is a safe, festive Fourth of July craft that makes a great party favor or decoration.
Step 1: Cover the tube. Wrap and glue colored paper around the cardboard tube.
Step 2: Add stars. Apply star stickers all over the covered tube.
Step 3: Add sparks. Cut tissue paper into thin strips and scrunch them into the top of the tube so they "explode" out of the top.
Step 4: Add the fuse. Tape a piece of string or twine to the bottom of the tube as the fuse.
Step 5: Display! Line up a row of firecrackers as a patriotic table centerpiece.
Cylindrical decoration — Working on a curved surface builds spatial awareness.
Festive design — Understanding that colors and symbols communicate a theme develops visual literacy.
These are incredibly fast to make — perfect for a large group. Set up an assembly line: one station for covering, one for stickers, one for sparks. Twenty children can make their firecrackers in 15 minutes.
