Father's Day Photo Magnet

Father's Day Photo Magnet

A refrigerator magnet featuring a photo of the child and dad (or just the child) is a gift that gets displayed where a father sees it every single day. Children decorate a frame around the photo, then a magnet on the back turns it into a fridge fixture.

What You'll Need

  • A printed photo — 3×3 or 4×4 inches
  • Cardstock or foam sheet — slightly larger than the photo for the frame
  • Adhesive magnet strip or sheet — from a craft store
  • Markers, stickers, gems — for decorating the frame
  • Glue stick or double-sided tape

How to Do It

Step 1: Make the frame. Cut cardstock or foam into a frame shape, slightly larger than the photo with a window cut in the center.

Step 2: Decorate the frame. Children add stickers, write "I love you, Dad!" with marker, add gems.

Step 3: Attach the photo. Glue the photo behind the frame window.

Step 4: Add the magnet. Peel and stick a magnet strip to the back of the frame.

Step 5: Present!

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Frame and composition — Understanding how a frame draws focus to a central image is an art concept.

Personalization — Choosing what to write and add to the frame builds emotional intelligence.

Tips & Variations

  • Make a set of 3 magnets in different sizes with different photos.
  • Use a school photo so it's a keepsake of a specific year.

My Two Cents

Magnetic sheets from craft stores are much easier than individual magnet strips — simply peel and stick the whole back.
