DIY Trophy Cup

DIY Trophy Cup

A "World's Best Dad" trophy made from a plastic cup, aluminum foil, and cardboard base is a silly, delightful Father's Day gift that dads genuinely love. Children engrave (draw on) the trophy with a toothpick and present it with enormous ceremony.

What You'll Need

  • Plastic cup — a sturdy cup like a reusable party cup
  • Aluminum foil — to cover the cup
  • Small cardboard circle — for the base
  • Toothpick or dull pencil — for engraving
  • Yellow and gold paint — optional
  • Ribbon and stickers — for decoration

How to Do It

Step 1: Wrap with foil. Wrap the cup in aluminum foil, smoothing carefully.

Step 2: Make the base. Cut a circle from cardboard. Wrap in foil and glue to the bottom of the cup.

Step 3: Engrave. Use a toothpick to gently draw lines into the foil: "World's Best Dad," stars, and the child's name.

Step 4: Decorate. Add gold stickers, paint details, or a ribbon around the rim.

Step 5: Present with a speech! Every trophy deserves an acceptance speech — encourage the child to give one.

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Symbolic recognition — A trophy symbolizes achievement; children understand this social meaning.

Engraving technique — Drawing through foil requires careful, controlled pressure.

Tips & Variations

  • Add a superhero cape made from a piece of red cloth attached to the base.
  • Fill the trophy cup with favorite candy — a useful trophy!

My Two Cents

The presentation moment is everything. Practice a little speech with the child: "I award this trophy to my dad because..." The combination of handmade gift and formal presentation is genuinely moving for parents.
