Bunny Paper Chain

Bunny Paper Chain

An accordion-folded paper chain of connected bunnies is a satisfying Easter craft that doubles as a cheerful room decoration. Children cut the shape from folded paper, unfold to reveal a parade of linked bunnies, then decorate each one individually.

This is a wonderful lesson in symmetry — the same cut on the fold appears on both sides, creating a mirrored shape. When you unfold and see ten bunnies holding hands (or paws!), the reveal is magical.

What You'll Need

  • White or pastel construction paper — strips about 4 inches wide and 24 inches long (tape shorter pieces together)
  • Scissors — adult-guided for younger children
  • Markers, crayons, stickers — for decorating
  • Optional: pink pompoms — for noses

How to Do It

Step 1: Fold accordion style. Fold the paper back and forth like a fan, making each section about 3 inches wide.

Step 2: Draw half a bunny. On the top section, draw half a bunny shape with the flat side on the fold: rounded head, ear on top, round body, paws reaching to the edges of the paper.

Step 3: Cut the shape. Carefully cut the bunny silhouette — but do NOT cut the fold edges where the paws touch! Those connections keep the chain linked.

Step 4: Unfold. Gently unfold the paper to reveal a chain of bunnies holding paws!

Step 5: Decorate each bunny. Give each bunny its own face, costume, and colors.

🎓 Skills Your Child Will Develop

Symmetry — The same shape appearing on both sides of the fold introduces mathematical symmetry.

Scissor skills — Cutting through multiple layers simultaneously requires confident cutting.

Individuality within sameness — Decorating identical shapes differently celebrates creative expression.

Tips & Variations

  • Use pink or lavender paper for pastel bunnies.
  • Make a longer chain by taping multiple sections together.
  • Try chick chains, egg chains, or flower chains with the same technique.
  • Hang chains across a bulletin board or window for a classroom display.

My Two Cents

This is one of those crafts where the reveal does all the work. When children unfold the chain and see the row of bunnies for the first time, there's always a beat of pure surprise. Pre-fold the paper for younger children so they can jump straight to cutting — the folding step can be tricky for small hands.
