Bunny Nose Mask

Bunny Nose Mask

A bunny nose mask is one of the simplest Easter crafts with the highest payoff in imaginative play. A small pink triangle nose on a craft stick, held up to the face, transforms any child into a bunny for hours of imaginative play, Easter egg hunts, and bunny puppet shows. Even children who resist wearing hats or full masks are happy to hold a nose mask.

What You'll Need

  • Pink craft foam or cardstock — for the nose
  • Popsicle stick or craft stick — for the handle
  • White cardstock — for the whiskers
  • Pink and black markers
  • Tape or glue
  • Optional: pink paint, sparkle foam — for decoration

How to Do It

Step 1: Cut the nose. Cut a triangle shape from pink foam — about 2 inches across. Round the bottom slightly for an anatomically bunny-like shape.

Step 2: Add whisker holes. Using a toothpick or sharp pencil tip, carefully poke two holes on each side of the nose triangle. These are where the whiskers thread through.

Step 3: Make whiskers. Cut thin white strips from cardstock, about 4 inches long. Thread two strips through each pair of holes and secure with a small drop of glue behind the nose.

Step 4: Draw the nostril. Use a black marker to draw a small upside-down Y shape in the center of the nose — the classic bunny nostril mark.

Step 5: Attach the stick. Glue the craft stick to the back of the nose at the bottom center. Let the glue dry completely before use.

Step 6: Use for play. Hold the mask up to the face and hop around. Combine with bunny ears headband for a full costume.

Skills Your Child Will Develop

Dramatic play — A simple prop unlocks extended imaginative scenarios.

Fine motor threading — Putting whiskers through holes builds hand control.

Symmetry awareness — Placing whiskers to match on both sides introduces spatial symmetry.

Tips & Variations

  • Make a cat nose mask (black triangle with pink) and a dog nose mask (black circle) for a whole animal collection.
  • Use the mask in a puppet show — hold it in front of a stuffed animal as a "bunny character."
  • Add a heart-shaped nostril for a Valentine's Day version.
  • Make masks in different colors for a whole family of bunnies.

My Two Cents

Poke the whisker holes before children start decorating — trying to poke through decorated foam is harder and may tear the material. Do the structural prep first, then hand over the decorating.
